Child Sponsorship Program UPDATE

March 8th 2022
Thank you for your prayers and inquiries of the status of your sponsor child or children. At this time, we do not have specific information about each child (1000+ in program) and caseworkers (78 teams). We did send a 3 month advance of funds for food packages to the caseworkers 4 weeks ago. Each caseworker will be making decisions that are best for them and the region they are in. We know that they will pray for guidance, and it may be a long time to know how each child and family have responded to the crisis in Ukraine. We are speaking to caseworkers, pastors and program managers on a regular basis and trying to respond to their requests with Refugee Aid resources.

HART continues to manage the Child Sponsorship Program so that we can support the children you have selected. We ask at this time that you continue with your sponsorship even if you child is 18 or will be 18 years old and should complete the program. For those Ukraine families who were not able to remain in their homes, the caseworkers will distribute the child food packages to other families in need. If you are not able to continue sponsorship, please contact me to release your pledge.

Letters you send to your children will be translated based on availability of staff. Translated letters will be emailed to caseworkers who may be delayed in hand delivering it to your child.

We are asking at this time that Family Support for a specific child be given to the Refugee Aid fund. Local churches where your children are based, are also taking in and feeding families that are displaced from their home and traveling to borders. Donations to our Refugee Aid program will be used for food, medical support, and other immediate needs.

The Government of Canada is only accepting applications from immediate family members leaving Ukraine to move to Canada. If they start looking for churches and communities to sponsor families with no relations in Canada, we will reach out to you at that time.

Pray for Peace,

Donna Unterschultz

Hart Child Sponsorship Program

2019 Child Sponsorship Conference

At the beginning of June, CSP caseworkers from all over Ukraine and Moldova gathered in L'viv, Ukraine, for HART's 2019 Child Sponsorship Conference.

Its overall purpose was two-fold: team-building and celebrating the work God is accomplishing through them each day. We discussed issues caseworkers face, reviewed administrative procedures, enjoyed guest speakers, and shared powerful stories of transformation experienced as a part of this ministry.

The Child Sponsorship Program would not be as effective or successful if not for these hardworking and dedicated caseworkers caring for your sponsored children. HART President Lloyd Cenaiko shares some of the conference's highlights in the video below.

CSP Birthday Gifts and Family Support

We are in the process of adapting our Birthday Gifts program to ensure that the ongoing needs of each family are met. Caseworkers are constantly assessing the needs of each family and identifying those that are currently unmet—including food, utilities, household items, and bill payments.

If a child has received money for a toy and he or she already has multiple toys, it may at that time be more important for the family to be able to use this money for a pressing need. For this reason, in special instances, additional funds contributed to purchase birthday presents for sponsored children may be reallocated to support the family.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we move forward with this adaptation on a case-by-case basis—with each family's best interests in mind. Our caseworkers understand each family's situation intimately and perform a crucial role in determining their overall wellbeing. HART will continue to rely on the discretion and advisement of our caseworkers when making decisions on these matters.
